Learning To Get Up On A Wakeboard

Getting up on a wakeboard can be tricky as it has to be in sync with the movement of the boat. If one tries to hurry, it will result in failure. Timing is very crucial. Patience is the key with the timing being right as one learns wakeboarding. Therefore, new wakeboarding enthusiasts should read the few pointers below. The first step is obviously to fasten your wakeboard to your feet and take the rope handle in your hands. Remember not to pull at the handle. One needs to hold onto it to stay connected to the boat.

Once you have done the above, you need to back into the water and wait for the boat to begin – this is the first initial yet important position as the boat will begin to move. You have your wakeboard on, you have the rope handle in your hands and you are lying back in the water while waiting for the boat to begin moving. The wakeboard is now parallel to the rear of the speed boat. Your feet are in the upward direction while the wakeboard is just at the edge of the water.

Till the boat begins to pull you, the only part of your body that is connected to the wakeboard will be your feet No amount of pulling is going to help. This means now you are leaning yet standing on the wakeboard with your feet secured onto it. When the speed boat begins to move, let the motion of the boat pull up out of the water and onto the wakeboard. Once you are comfortable with the movement, gently rise up. Yet be careful, don’t get over confident, just go with the flow. It is imperative that you rise without loosening or increasing the tension of the rope.

While rising turn your hip so that the wakeboard moves from its horizontal position to a straight line pointing directly at the boat. And maintain your hold over the rope handle. In this stance you have one foot in front of the other. The major weight of your body rests on your back foot while the front of the board is raised up at an angle while riding the waters.

As the boat gathers speed, stay calm and do not shift from your position as this will cause you to lose balance and fall into the water.
